We just got taken into a quiet side hallway for a 90 second photo shoot with the Dell slate device. It's... red. It's also a nicely thin five-inch Android device with a dialer, but other than that we weren't getting any answers on the record, so the mystery continues.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will demonstrate a new touch-screen, tablet-style computer from Hewlett-Packard Co. on Wednesday night, the first of several such devices expected to be unveiled this month.

With production time of its Tablet approaching, Apple has been making its final decisions on which components will go into the device, which is due out in March. Unfortunately for Intel, it didn't make the cut, says Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar, based on conversations with Apple's design manufacturing partners.

Monday Mary Jo Foley did a pretty good job summing up various tablet and touch efforts by Microsoft.

First, she declares that Microsoft has already ceded the tablet market in part because of marketing. She doesn’t quite get the full touch idea either–no matter what the size of the display.
